“Femina” is a manifestation of womanhood expressed through a contemporary dance performance, exploring the dual and contradictory image of women in society, which has significantly shaped how modern women perceive themselves. One of the central themes of the performance is the role of women in art. In artworks created over several centuries and exhibited in the world’s leading museums, women are predominantly seen through the lens of the male artist as passive and silent objects. Such representations have often persisted in contemporary popular culture, including cinema, music, and social media.
The creative team explores how this image of women, which we have grown accustomed to since childhood, has influenced 21st-century women in their everyday lives and shaped their relationship with themselves. Inspired by artistic references and personal experience, dancer Laura Gorodko invites the audience to embark on a transformative journey through the different layers that surround her in this man-made world.
